Pikes, “The EWP” Reserve Shiraz, Clare Valley 2017
HK$ 380
As a single vineyard wine, this is an excellent showcase for the unique expression of Shiraz grown on Pikes’ Polish Hill River Estate.
A combination of inoculated and spontaneous natural fermentation on skins for an average of 14 days in open vats. Gentle cap management using compressed air to protect aromatic qualities of the wine.
Color: Deep red – almost black.
Nose: Quite perfumed, with aromas of ripe dark berries and black cherry with hints of spice, charry French oak and graphite. Also some attractive/complex grilled meat notes.
Palate: The palate is medium bodied and has soft, silky tannins that provide structure for the rich yet not overpowering ripe dark fruits and chocolate. Balanced acidity sees the wine finish long and clean. Really is quite elegant.
Food Pairing: Great match with grilled rib-eye steak on the bone or your favorite soft cheese.
