Josmeyer, “Fleur de Lotus”, Alsace
HK$ 220
About ten small parcels on alluvial and gravelly soils located in the plain around Turckheim make up this cuvée.
La Fleur de Lotus was imagined and created by Jean MEYER, on his return from his first trip to Asia. Naturally, the idea of creating a dry wine, delicate with a spicy aroma, but light in alcohol to marry with Asian and creative cuisines, imposed itself on him.
The harvest is 100% manual. Our approach remains traditional. The grapes are pressed whole for about 6 hours in our pneumatic presses. The settling is natural. Fermentation starts spontaneously with the yeasts in the middle in our hundred-year-old casks. On this cuvée, we favor fermentation and aging on fine lees. Before bottling, the wine is filtered. It can be readjusted in sulphur, if necessary, at this time.
This dry wine exudes travel. On the nose, we find scents of flowers, exotic fruits all in delicacy. It’s just about releasing the air and floral side of the Gewurztraminer without the power and the alcohol. The fleshy palate blossoms with freshness thanks to the presence of Muscat then ends with spice which will tone up the finish in a playful and energetic way. Pepper, cardamom and wild herbs come together gracefully.
Food pairing: This wine goes wonderfully with Indian, Asian cuisine or any other dish favoring spice. Tomatoes throughout the summer in pies or antipasti, as well as smoked and marinated fish will make delicious eccentric or refined pairings.
