Luis Cañas, Finca El Palacio, Rioja DOCa 2017
HK$ 530
With EL PALACIO, we suggest a return to the origins of Rioja Alavesa wine. The diversity that is found in the vineyard is what we will find in the wine. The sum of the subtleties contained in each and every corner of the vineyard: its three terraces, its different aspects, the varying gradients of the erosion slope… are all part of the complexity of this wine.
The winemaker does not decide the proportion of each variety in the blend. The percentages are determined by the vineyard, by the number of vines planted in 1969: 4,350 Tempranillo vines (75% of the varietal mix), 1,054 Graciano vines (20%) and 269 Viura vines (5%).
Bunches arrive in boxes, and double selection at the table (bunches and grapes). The three varieties are fermented together in a French oak vat. Malolactic fermentation in 500-litre second-use barrels.
It has been aged 15 months in 500-litre barrels.
